Founded by Eugene Farrier in 1980, Farrier Surveying, Inc is a local, family-owned and -operated firm based in Kalkaska, Michigan. What began as a small operation run from Eugene’s home with one part-time employee has grown into an experienced surveying company serving the greater Kalkaska area and surrounding counties.
Today, the Farrier family continues to build on that foundation through professional service, community involvement, and a commitment to accurate, cost-effective surveying solutions for clients throughout Northern Michigan.

Dean possesses a B.S. in Surveying Engineering from Ferris State University. Also, he has a B.S. in Education, Biology, and Chemistry from Central Michigan University. In July 1995, he became a Licensed Professional Surveyor of Michigan.
He holds memberships in ACSM and the Northern Michigan Chapter of MSPS. As Project Supervisor and Consulting Biologist, his responsibilities include CAD operations, supervision of survey crews in the field, representing the company in client interactions, wetland determinations, and preparation of environmental permit applications for wetland fill or stream and wetland crossings.
He possesses numerous years of experience in the surveying field. Following in his father's footsteps, Dean was elected the Kalkaska County surveyor in 2012. Dean is currently involved with several community boards and projects.

Eugene, a licensed, professional surveyor, began his surveying career in 1958 working for the Michigan Department of Transportation, doing road surveys, and later working in the Right-of-Way Division.
In 1971, he worked for a private engineering and surveying company and became a Survey Supervisor. In 1980, he opened Farrier Surveying from his home, with one part-time employee.
Gene is very active in the community, having served on the board of directors for the Kalkaska Downtown Development Association.
Gene was the elected Kalkaska County Surveyor from 1980 until 2012. He is also a member of the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS).
