Farrier Surveying, Inc. was founded by Eugene Farrier in 1980. Based in Kalkaska MI, it is a family owned and operated firm that has grown to include 8 employees, including the following key personnel.

Dean R. Farrier, P.S.,
Professional Surveyor, Owner, President, Consulting Biologist

Dean possesses a B.S. in Surveying Engineering from Ferris State University. In addition, he has a B.S. in Education, Biology and Chemistry from Central Michigan University. In July 1995, he became a Licensed Professional Surveyor of Michigan. He holds memberships in ACSM and the Northern Michigan Chapter of MSPS. As Project Supervisor and Consulting Biologist his responsibilities include: CAD operations, supervision of survey crews in the field, representing the company in client interactions, wetland determinations, preparation of environmental permit applications for wetland fill or stream and wetland crossings. He possesses numerous years of experience in the surveying field.

Eugene, a licensed Professional Surveyor, began his surveying career in 1958 working for Michigan Department of Transportation, doing road surveys and later working in the Right Of Way Division. In 1971 he worked for a private engineer and surveying company and became a Survey Supervisor. In 1980 he opened Farrier Surveying from his home, with one part time employee. Gene is very active in the community having served on the board of directors for the Kalkaska Downtown Development Association, and the Kalkaska Economic Development Corporation. Gene is presently on the Board of Directors for the Kalkaska Industrial Development Corporation. Gene has been the elected Kalkaska County Surveyor since 1980. He is also a member of American Congress of Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) and the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS).
Don Stocking
Senior Crew Chief
Don has been employed by Farrier Surveying since 1987. He attended Ferris State University from 1981-1983. Don is extremely knowledgeable in the surveying field. He has been to numerous training seminars throughout the country to continue his education in the surveying field and the use of our state-of-the-art equipment. Don’s responsibilities include: overseeing survey crews, working with office staff on details of projects, representing the company in client interactions, meeting with land agents to position oil and gas wells, and performing environmental impact assessments.
Don Vance
Crew Chief
Don spent 4 years in the U.S. Navy after graduating from Kalkaska High School. Upon his return home, he worked for 10 years as a drilling pipe inspector for the oil and gas exploration industry. Don joined our team in 1992, and has served as Crew Chief since 1995. His experience in oil and gas field staking and elevation loops, as well as property boundary surveys makes him a key asset to our company.
Heather Johne
Office Administrator
Heather also joined our staff in 2011. She is a dedicated and technically skilled business professional and has worked for many years in the land survey industry as an office manager, ensuring a consistent positive customer experience.
